5 advantages of Kijimea FloraCare

01 / 05

Vaginal flora – the often forgotten microbiome

The word "microbiome" tends to make us think of the gut. However, other regions of the body are also populated with collections of different bacteria – in particular the genital area. Just like the gut microbiome, in the vaginal microbiome the composition of individual bacterial strains is critical for ensuring it can effectively fulfil its function.

Lactobacillus strains are key here. An interesting discovery is that the vaginal microbiome seems to be connected to the gut microbiome. This means that orally administered probiotics or microculture products can affect not just the gut but also the vaginal microbiome. 1

02 / 05

The importance of the vaginal microbiome

The vaginal microbiome has a mainly protective function, preventing the permeation of potentially harmful germs and bacteria which could cause infections, for example. The respective bacterial strains which exist within this microbial system have very diverse roles, with lactobacilli considered particularly important. Using a process called glycon metabolism they create lactic acid, which in turn is important for the acidity of the vagina milieu (pH value between 3.8 and 4.4).

Maintaining this acidity is crucial to inhibiting the growth of potentially harmful germs. At the same time, the acid environment enables the production of nitric oxide by means of several lactobacilli. This can kill off "bad" bacteria and viruses and as such serves an important protective function against unwanted intruders. In addition, specific lactobacilli produce hydrogen peroxide, which inhibits the growth of pathogenic germs.

03 / 05

The role of the vaginal mucosa as a growth medium

Also providing key protection against germs is the vaginal mucosa. This is a protective film which covers the vaginal epithelial cells and thereby serves as a barrier which prevents the permeation of facultative pathogenic germs.

The vaginal mucosa is also a growth medium for the vaginal microbiome, and as such could be said to create the conditions under which the highly important lactobacillus strains can colonise and propagate in the first place.

Kijimea FloraCare – based on the natural vaginal microbiome

The Kijimea microbiome experts have developed Kijimea FloraCare as a product which, using precisely coordinated lactobacillus strains, aims to imitate the natural vaginal microbiome in its variety and diversity. At the same time it also promotes the normal structure and function of the vaginal mucosa, through the addition of Vitamin B2.

Current research shows that, as well as requiring sufficient diversity of bacterial strains, the vaginal microbiome is above all dependent on the presence of very specific strains that are crucial for normal functioning. For example, Lactobacillus crispatus and Lactobacillus gasseri are particularly significant.

That is why the lactobacillus strains which are most important for the vaginal microbiome have been carefully selected and combined in Kijimea FloraCare. As they interact, they help promote an ideal pH level in the vaginal microbiome, of 3.8 to 4.4. Containing 33 Lactobacillus strains, Kijimea FloraCare is also the most diverse product on the market developed specifically for the vaginal microbiome.

Each capsule contains no fewer than 10 billion colony forming units, i.e. viable bacteria. Kijimea FloraCare delivers an extraordinarily high dose.

In addition, the vaginal mucosa, which serves as a growth medium for the vaginal microbiome, is supported with Vitamin B2.
